New Year New Start.

Woo’s Winter Orienteering Challenge took place on the 29th December and saw 25 members and family take to the canal paths around Hythe for a 5 mile run with 10 brain-busting clues to solve along the way. As ever, the clock only stops when the run and the answers are completed, with penalty time added for incorrect answers. Afterwards a convivial “American Supper” was held in Woo’s sportshall before the results were announced and the prestigious trophy awarded to; Winning team: Nick Steele, Joe Bruce & Jacob Henwood. total time of 57m45s
2nd place team: Tristan Bruce, Stuart Sprinks & James Barrey, total time of 60m 36s
3rd place team: Adam Ward, Aimee Howard, Dan McCarthy & Beth Goodchild, 68m57s

Before Christmas Thomas Webb kicked off the indoor athletics season by competing in the South of England Combined Events Champs at Lee Valley. Thomas competed in the U17M Heptathlon over two days, which consisted of 60m sprint, long jump, high jump, shot put, 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m. He PB’d in all events and won the silver medal! 

On Saturday 10th January the KCAA Cross-Country Championships were held at Brands Hatch.

Jacob Gillett took part in the U13 Boys, coming in 16th with a time of 11:49.  Poppy Duncan took part in the U15 Girls and came 15th with a time of 18:07.  In the U17 Boys, Guy Slingsby finished in 25th place in a time of 17:31.

In the Senior Mens race six club members took part, Simon Ramsey 46:25, Nick Steele 47:22, Elliot Chapman-Jones 50:35, Paul Bartlet 52:47, Jacob Henwood 54:23 and Thomas Aspinall 56:27.  In the Senior Womens race five club member took part, Nicola Goodwin 37:37, Catherine O’Connor 42:48, Rosie Smissen 44:03, Kate Evans 44:51 and Hilary Collins 47:04.

In warmer climbs, Caron Inder ran her first ever big race abroad in the Valencia 10k. With an electrifying atmosphere, and over 14,000 runners Caron enjoyed the glorious sunshine with a bite in the wind. Starting slow and on pace and finished strong Caron got a PB in a time of 1:07:11 which she was “chuffed to bits as this is a great start to the year plus I have an awesome medal now🥇.”
