Race Reports 22 December–28 December

The eager elves of FRAC have been tramping over the (not so) frozen earth this festive season, from Saltwood to Cornwall and beyond. How have you celebrated your Christmas on the trot?

Staplehurst 10 Miler, Staplehurst, Kent – 28 December

First up is Sarah Nunn who laced up for the Staplehurst 10 Miler. She reports:

Staplehurst end of year 10miler event. First time taking part in this run. Starting in Staplehurst village before heading out onto open, undulating country roads. A rather steep hill met the runners around mile 6-7 before heading back to Staplehurst. Finished 2nd in age category, 12th female and a new PB time of 1hr20m27.. great end to the running year.

What a great start to your year, Sarah!

The Saltwood Boxing Day Fun Run, Saltwood – 26 December

Forty-two of the club’s finest turned out for an ambitious post-Chrimbo bimble in another edition of the infamous Saltwood Boxing Day run hosted by Channel Rotary Club. Described as “3 miles of mud, hills, and hangover cure”, this one benefitted the Motor Neurone Disease Association in its mission to further research into the illness and offer support to those affected by it.

Leading the way, Guy Slingsby finished in 17:52 to bag 2nd in the Junior Men category. Up next, Jacob Gillett sinched 3rd in the Junior Men in 19:36. Nikki Goodwin crossed the line in 22:00 flat to earn a smashing 1st in W40, with Poppy Duncan rolling up in 22:28 for 3rd in Junior Women. Louisa Eade earned her own podium with 2nd for W50 in a PB time of 24:04. David Weekes nabbed 2nd in M60 in a time of 25:09. Jane Wren blazed into a sub-30 of 29:54 for 3rd in W60.

There were many other excellent runs from club mates, and you can check the full provisional results at the link below.

And Caron Inder reports from the Netherlands where she tilted at windmills!

My first ever parkrun abroad at Oude Warande, Tilburg parkrun in the Netherlands in the shape of windmill sails. Running on a trail through woodland on a trail which was beautiful. It was freezing -2 with windchill making it feel like -8. I came overall 17th.
