Tuesday 13th January – Catherine’s Marathon Talk
Although it wasn’t specifically a race, on Tuesday a good group of FRAC runners, most of which have races coming up, turned out to hear the Top Coach Catherine giving advice and strategies for upcoming marathons.
Covering topics such as: Nutrition, pacing, midweek training runs and much more, time seemed to fly by and some of us were working our hands just as hard as we usually work our legs in the process of taking notes, I ended up taking nearly 5 pages, with the word pace coming up far too many times.

This season’s workshop consists of 3 talks, the other 2 are taking place on Tuesday 10th February and Tuesday 10th March, with the February following a 400m track session.
Whatever your experience level, and even if you don’t have a spring marathon on the cards you’ll learn something from these talks, so grab some clothes to change into after the session and some note-taking equipment and come along next month, it’ll be incredibly useful.

Saturday 17th January – Dartford, Kent Schools Cross Country Championships
Continuing an action packed Saturday was another weekend of XC racing, with the future stars of our club competing against other Kent schools, with eagerly anticipated opportunities to run for Kent up for grabs.
Alex Eggleston ran in the intermediate boys (School years 10 + 11) 5050m with a time of 21:08.
Poppy Duncan ran in the junior girls (School years 8 + 9) 3300m with a time of 13:42.
Samuel Deeming ran in the junior boys (School years 8 + 9) 3300m with a time of 13:17.
Jacob Gillett also ran in the junior boys (School years 8 + 9 ) 3300mm with a time of 11:44.
Jacob has been selected to run for Kent schools at the years 7 and 8 Inter-Counties XC match in March, and Poppy has been selected for the South East schools Inter-Counties XC match at the end of January.
Good luck to both of them.
Also taking part on Saturday was the king of Folkestone’s junior parkrun, Guy Slingsby, who finished 25th out of a field of 92 athletes in the Intermediate Boys category, his mum Julie described his run as ‘fabulous’ and his run earnt him a ‘You might get selected for Kent’ card as he crossed the line, which he’s hopefully successful with as I’m sure we’ll all agree that he deserves it.

A special mention goes to Kate Evans for being one of Kent’s best XC fans, regularly showing up at events to marshal, support our runners and also run herself, keep up the good work!
Not my longest report ever, but plenty to look forward to in the near future, with a workshop, more XC, another handicap and plenty more on the horizon.
A big one is due next week with the incredibly popular Canterbury 10 mile race taking place on Sunday 25th, with a very different route this year, heading out towards Whitstable instead of Bridge and back round in a loop, which has been described as undulating instead of quite as hilly as the previous route.
Unfortunately like most of 2025’s races I wont be able to run it myself, but I wish good luck to everyone taking part, and I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on and reading the report on it.
