Step into Christmas!

‘Tis the season for lots of food, cosy films, time with loved ones and of course, plenty of festive runs!

With some special parkruns set for over the holiday period including some traditional Boxing Day events – our running boots won’t be taking much of a break.

Just like last weekend our runners have been out doing what they do best with a Christmas-twist.

Before we get a look at everything they’ve been up to this week, everyone at Folkestone Running & Athletics Club would like to wish all who run with us, support members from the sidelines or who just read our reports – a very Merry Christmas!

Let’s step into this week’s edition:

Kent Christmas Cracker 2025

Andy, Nick and Carrie feeling merry after their Kent Xmas Cracker outing

No cheesy jokes inside this Christmas cracker, just a great showing from all our club mates!

Sunday 21st December saw runners at Betteshanger Country Park welcomed for a fun run and flat 5 mile outing to celebrate the festive vibes.

Eight Folkestone reps took to the course (just one runner short of a full set of reindeers) and put down some fantastic showings.

Coming in at 3rd place overall and smashing it once again, Nicholas Steale finishes in 28:56.

Sebastian Voiss not far behind at 36:18 with Carrie Thomas in 37:23 and Andrew Hadlow with 38:14.

Deirdre Coombs, who came 1st in her age category also did it with 22 seconds off from last year’s race with a new time of 45:51.

Victoria Jones got across the line in 46:35, Maria Felicetti at 50:39 and then Sophie O’Callaghan finishing in 53:38.

Here’s Carrie’s pun-packed report about her experience on the day:

“It really sleighed expectations! I was a little underdressed, but alongside my fellow FRAC friends we wrapped ourselves up in festive spirit and got stuck in.

“The conditions were snow joke and made for a truly reindeer-markable run. I crossed the line as the fourth lady home in 37:23 and unwrapped a win in my age category too.

“A proper Christmas cracker of a race that left me feeling elf-tastic – ho ho ho!”

Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5K

Carrie Thomas and Catherine O’Connor celebrating at the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5K

Joining Carrie in on the fun, club coach Catherine O’Connor headed out to Winter Wonderland!

A great race held on the last Friday of every month (just expect this one!) with a field of runners of exceptional standard! Some of the fastest runners from across the clubs of London came to compete.

Catherine and Carrie ran as one in a united effort which saw them come home in 22.01 and 22.25 respectively.

Brilliant effort you two!
