Race report Oct 6th

Sunday has seen a number of FRAC runners take part in events up and down the country -in fact one was on a pretty little island nearer to France than the UK!

Up at the Chester Marathon Andrew Noble achieved a time of 3:01:46 and 6th position Male Vet 60. Paul Hannay ran his best time for 2 and a half years in 4:34:12. Jessie Megson was also took part finishing in a time of 4:55:56. Well done all

In Cardiff Thomas Murray achieved his first sub 90 and Pb half marathon result finishing in 1:28:42 with Ron Bell completing the course in 1:44:51 and Collette Windsor in 2:10:41. Fantastic results

Across the water in Jersey Greg Dixon took part in the marathon completing the course in 3:35:40.and 89th place. He had this to say about the event; ” Really enjoyable race, tough hill in first 5 miles which took its toll but all flat and down after that in quiet country lanes. A very friendly and  well organised ‘smaller’ event but highly recommended. 35 min flight, cheaper than the other UK runs- and you get to tick off the Jersey parkrun”.

Closer to home in Dover Guy Slingsby (one of our junior runners) took part in the Western Heights’ Trail event completing the 5K in 26 minutes and finishing in the top 3. He had this to say about the event ” I took part in the Western Heights trail on Sunday, participating in the 5k. It was my first trail run and I completed it in around 26 minutes, coming in 2nd place. It was certainly an experience. From the start of the first km to the end of the 3rd there was a 78 metre elevation difference! The atmosphere was fantastic. The scenery amazing. It was brilliant seeing some other club runners there” .  In the 10k event Jason King completed the very challenging course in 1:20:30.He reported that “it was the hardest event he has ever done”

Also taking part in the pilot Canicross was Sylwia Tokarska who completed the 10k course in 1:15:55. She loved the route, the atmosphere and the event itself. Congratulations to all.

Finally an event with a difference Torben Jessen took part in the London Tower run. Here’s how he summed the event up. ” My first tower run (if that counts for the race report?). Climb the Capital involved running up 3 tower blocks in the City of London: The Cheesegrater, Scalpel and Walkie-Talkie with total climbing of 475m. You are only timed on the climbing. As a late entrant the challenge was how to pace the climbing with only a couple of practice sessions on the Metropole Steps and the Bouverie Place car park stairs. Pleased with the way it went. Managed a consistent pace and came 13th out of 71 finishers with a time of 23 minutes 53 seconds. Great fun and not as hard on the legs as a road race!”
