Last of the summer runs

September is in full swing and the hints of autumn have begun to show its face.

We’ve thankfully been treated to some final offerings of sunshine before the season ends, which has made these running efforts this week even more brighter.

Here’s what Folkestone Running & Athletics Club has been up to (including some FANTASTIC marathon results!):

Phil Maull midway through his 50k ultra run

Suffolk Coast 50k Ultra Marathon

One of many Phils (this one of the ultra running variety) took on The Suffolk Coast 50K Ultra Marathon on Saturday 14 September.

The course wends it’s way from Lowestoft to Aldborough via the lovely Southwold and Warberswick.

When he caught his breath, Phil had to say:

“It was so great to race in a place where I’ve had many lovely holidays.

“It was a hot day and the small sections on pebbles and sand were tough but I really enjoyed this well organised race. Beautiful views too!”

Amazing work Phil and with a time of 06:04:35, you deserve a nice week off!

(loving the hat too!)

Richmond RUNFEST Marathon

Sunday 15 September saw Jacob Henwood take on the 26.2 miles of the Richmond Run-Fest Marathon.

He not only completed the course in a whopping 03:17:02 but did so by knocking 18 minutes off his marathon personal best!

He said he was in limp-mode from mile 21 but managed to fight through the cramp and come out all smiles with his well deserved medal.

TCS Sydney Marathon

Rachel Smith went down under this weekend but came out on top with a personal best effort at the TCS Sydney Marathon on Sunday 15 September.

There were some slight technical issues with the participants race times and distance as Rachel’s official chip time was 05:03 but it was for 26.5 not 26.2 miles…

This didn’t stop her from taking in the great atmosphere and enjoying her run over the Sydney Harbour Bridge which she said was: “Awesome!”

Have fun during the rest of your time out in Oz Rachel – make sure to rest up those legs!

Kent Masters Championships

Caroline Curtis showed off her track star credentials by taking part in the Kent Masters Track 5000 Championships at Medway Park in Gillingham.

She finished her event in 22.28 and made some friends along the way. Great going Caroline!
