With the start of Autumn we see the start of the racing being to pick up for our members. It has been a busy week, so lets get straight to the incredible efforts we have seen this week.
DOM Thompson Mile
FRAC club members kicked off the week on Tuesday 03rd September with the annual Dom Thompson Mile Race. An annual club event, taking place between Hythe and Sandgate, that memorialises former club member and Olympic gold medallist Dom Thompson. This year saw a new club record run by Simon Ramsey in a fantastic time of 4.40, a huge well done to Simon. The Rye Summer Classic Series Race 3 – 5k
This was the third and final in the Rye Summer Classic Series. Jane Wren gives us the some insight into the race. “The race took place on a Friday night at 7pm and starts at the Rye Harbour Sailing Club. It is an out and back 5k that goes out down to the sea through the nature reserves and towards Winchelsea.
8 FRAC members took part in the final race. First home for FRAC and third male overall in the race (and series) was Stephen Male in a time of 17:34. Stephen was also 1st MV50.
Andrew Noble was the next FRAC member back across the finish line (and 1st MV60) in a time of 19:00 minutes. The other members taking part were Martin Salmon (2nd MV55) in 21:28, Carrie Thomas in a PB time of 22:30, Anthony Scott in 24:16, Alan Randall in 25:03, Deborah Parmenter 1st FV60 and a PB time of 25:09 and Jane Wren (2nd FV55) finished in 25:37“
Sunday 08th September saw many races, both near and far, so lets begin:
Jungfrau Marathon
Vicky Scott and Ivana Collier took on the challenge of the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland the challenging course – covered 26.2 miles/1953m elevation gain finishing 2320m above sea level at base of Eiger’s North Face, with breath-taking Swiss mountain views. They crossed the finish line together in a time of 5:52:02. Fantastic Run, and what an experience for you both.
AJ Bell Great North Run 2024
Slightly closer to home but still a distance to travel we had the GNR 2024, a rather wet race with continuous rain. Despite the weather we still saw some amazing results, with our very own Jodie Stokes smashing it to bring home a PB time of 1.45.39! Full results are as follows: Adam Porter 01:24:47, Darren Crew 01:39:31, Gregory Dixon 01:42:00, Jody Stoakes 1:45:29 PB, Jason O’callaghan 01:47:28, Terry Fry 02:18:27, Sophie O’Callaghan 02:23:06, Neil Adams 02:24:26, Jason Crockford 2:24:31, Roy Atkins 02:33:33.
Norwich 10k
Torben Jesson took on the Run Norwich 10k completing the course in 39.24. As Torben tell us “It’s an undulating course. A long down hill section near the start, a small hill in the middle and a long uphill drag towards the end with a down hill sprint to the finish. Time was 39.24 beaten into second place in VM60-64 by 2 seconds! I should add that Run Norwich is a fantastic race, over 6,900 finishers (202 in VM60-64) and great support all the way round... Thank you Torben and what a great run for you.
Rye Ancient Trails 15K and 30K
We had members tackling both challenges of this rather hilly, muddy, but beautiful course. First up we have the 15K results, in which Simon Ramsey, who is smashing it this week, came to the finish line in 1:06:09 and claiming 3rd place!! Another amazing result! To follow we have Jason King, 01:26:16 , Martin Salmon 01:27:11, Anthony Scott 01:39:16, Sonia Markwell 1:53:50, Deborah Parmenter 01:53:53, Jane Wren 01:54:01 Then to follow we also had the 30K results with Andy Wright finishing in 2.48.15 and Catherine Clipstone in 5.08.46, Great work everyone
Wingham 10K
Next up we have the Wingham 10K results, another hilly course, where the members were awarded with flying pig medals for their efforts. James Barney came in at at time of 41.28. followed by Karla Larnder 47.26 (1st age category W50-59), Paul Hannay 55.09, Victoria McGilloway 56.45. Well done All!
Maverick CaniCross
Finally to report we had Jen & Phil Heathfield taking part in the Maverick Canicross with the lovely Banjo and Marley. Jen has given us this report “Maverick canicross for Phil and I. Marley was first dog home with me and we were 9th overall and 5th lady in 42:52 poor Phil got badly stung so he took Banj and was home in 55:29 in 33rd place.” Well done Marley, another first for team FRAC and we hope you recover soon Phil!
