Race Reports 5–18 August

The heat is on! The Olympics have wrapped giving us inspiration to set new goals and reach new heights, and the Paralympians are poised to do the same. Now we knuckle down and look ahead to the challenges we’ve set ourselves for Autumn and Winter (and even Spring 2025!). But we can also see inspiration in those around us, like the hardworking runners who have gone above and beyond in this week’s race report. Let’s get to the action.

SEAA Championships – 11 August

Matty Webb writes that junior athlete Thomas Webb took silver in the U15 Boys Shot Put on 11 August with a PB of 11.42m! A true threat, Thomas will go even further in future events, I’m sure!

Gateley Chase The Sun QE Olympic Park 5k, 10k & 10 Mile – 14th August

Club press officer Tom Aspinall lights up the report with a brilliant race in London this past week. Here’s what he had to say:

On Wednesday 14 of August during a murky yet warm evening I took part in the Gateley Chase The Sun 10 Mile event at the absolutely STUNNING Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Representing in the red, white and blues of the Folkestone Running & Athletics Club, I put in a personal best effort around this busy, yet flat 6 and a bit lapped course.

It was congested at parts due to the extra 5k and 10k runners who joined in with the 15k ones, which may have made it busier but with the vibes and energy it could not be matched without them.

Incredibly well run and with a fun warm up session to kick off the event, I went home beaming with a new time of 01:10:42 – now onto the Folkestone Rotary Half Marathon in September!

SAL Crawley – 18 August

Lisa Smith reports from SAL in Crawley where she and Andy chucked around some heavy stuff and went out on a high note!

Lots of fun at the last SAL of the season at the K2 in Crawley for me and Andrew John Smith :-

Orava Trail 36k & Tatra Trail 15.5k – 17/18 August

Sylwia Tokarska gave it some in Poland this week where the heat was everyone’s toughest competitor. But luck was on their side as previously cancelled competition eventually continued. Here’s what Sylwia had to say:

My Orava Trail (Slovakia -Poland) 36k with 1500m vert got cancelled due to thunderstorms. Fortunately the weather cleared 4h later and all cancelled races could run Tatra Trail 15.5k with 650m vert. The chip time and stats are not published yet, my Garmin says 22:22:37. No happy snappy as it was a rollercoaster day 🤪

Hythe Bay Triathlon – 18 August

Our final race reports come from Adam Hughes and Tom Aspinall.

Congrats to Adam on his first tri effort! Adam fills us in on how he tackled the challenge:

My first tri ever.
My time 01:13:35 (Fastest was 48:52)
39th out of 57 in the Open Category
46th out of 92 overall.

Anh-Van Whitby was out there representing our ladies. She came in 6th Female at a blazing 1:08:40! She’s a powerhouse!

And now for Tom’s report, this time as correspondent for Josh Pine’s epic tri effort this past weekend. Suffice to say, Josh did NOT lie down on the job. Give him all your kudos! Take it away, Tom!

We just wanted to wish a TRI-mendous well done to our very own Joshua Pine who took on and WON this year’s Hythe Bay Triathlon 👏

Our sports-endurance extraordinaire put his muscles to work by completing and coming first at today’s Ashford Tri Club event which involved swimming, cycling and of course, running!

With a finishing time of 48:52 out of list of 92 outstanding athletes who showed up to participate – it was a smashing day along our gorgeous coastline.

Way to show ’em how, Josh!
