Last weekend Neil Sutcliffe Adams travelled up North to take part in the Round Sheffield Run. This is a multi stage trail race that comprises several short stages that take the runner around the outskirts of the city. Neil completed this event in 2:07:34 and had this to say about the event. “It’s an event based around the south west of Sheffield, comprising 11 times stages through the area’s parks, including woodland, waterfalls and lots of hills. This was the event’s 10th anniversary and my 5th time of running it”. Excellent work Neil !!

Friday night saw the start of the Summer series of 10k races at Rye Harbour. Conditions were rather difficult but hardy club runners Stephen Male, Martin Salmon Tony Scott took part. All competed in the Vet 50 age category with Stephen finishing in 3rd place overall and first Male Vet 50.

Saturday night saw two new member of the club take part in the 9th Midnight half marathon in Dartford which starting at 5pm. Dan Mc Carthy finished in 1:55 whilst Layla D’monte completed the course in 1:58.

Sunday saw several intrepid FRAC members venture to Sevenoaks for a scenic if challenging trail run known as the Sevenoaks 7 . The ladies won the team event with Vicky Scott who was first home for the club and 3rd place Female Vet 35-44, Caroline Curtis 2nd Female Vet 55-64 and Jenny Heathfield representing the club. A special shout out to Collette Windsor and Rachel Smith who came to the aid of a fellow FRAC member who needed assistance. Collette sacrificed her own race to help this this other runner. Well done Collette !!!

Down at Bewl Water Greg Dixon and Carrie Thomas took part in the annual Bewl 15 race. Greg’s verdict ” A lovely race in an iconic setting. Yeah right: mud, puddles and more mud!!!. I think the rain was probably mud as well but actually good fun too” . He completed the race in 2:17:52 using this as part of his training for an Autumn marathon.
Also taking part was Carrie Thomas who finished in 4th place in her age category Vet 40 female in 2:21:08. She had this to say about the race: ” What a challenge the Bewl 15 mile was. I had never done it before but wanted to try a longer run. It was very muddy and wet! Lots of dodging round puddles, squeezing through gates and climbing over stiles. Then we had some nasty hills to contend with! Great to meet fellow FRAC member Greg Dixon at the end before picking up a free local bitter! 😀 “.

In another Weald of Kent race Martin Salmon took part in the MId Kent 5 Miler which started in the village of Staplehurst and took runners out to Frittenden. Martin described the race as fast and flat but rather wet. he completed the race in 35:25 and 6th in his age category of Vet 55.
