It’s almost hard to believe that we’ve reached the Summer Solstice already in the year 2024, but despite the indecisive weather and the all-too-rapid passage of time, our club is making the most of it. The summer 10ks keep rolling, ultras abound, and parkrun Challenge Cup is, well, challenging! Let’s hear about it.

Hangers Way 50km Ultra – 19 June
Phil Maull brings the news after a cracking run in the brand new Hangers Way 50k ultra event. Congratulations to Phil and Linnaea on getting out there and reeling in the miles in this beautiful England.
The Hangers Way 50 K race starts at Alice Holt country park in Hampshire and wends it’s way along the Hangers way to Queen Elizabeth country park. There was a lovely mix of trails today in the warm weather! The big hills are saved for the second half, and although shattering meant for spectacular views! It was my first Ultra of the year and I was so pleased to finish in 7 hours 33 minutes 48 seconds. So pleased that Linnaea Stockall ran well and kept to her plan of stopping at Checkpoint 2 after illness the last couple of weeks. A fabulous Ultra to be recommended!

Sandwich 10k – 23 June
This week’s big club event was the Sandwich 10k. If you haven’t yet read about it, the Sandwich 10k is part of the brand new FRAC Championship, a season-long challenge devised by the brilliant Jane Wren as a replacement for the Grand Prix.
Karla Larnder gives us her take on a hot and sunny one in Sandwich. Way to smash it, Karla!
Myself and a few others took part in the Sandwich 10k.
It was a mainly flat , very hot conditions with little shade from the trees. It was a great turn out from Folkestone. First back was Miles, then Dominic, then Greg, myself, Darren, and Jay (a new comer).
Wave 2 there was Col, Diane, Phil B, and Paul H.
Another wave we had a new comer, too ( female ). Everyone did very well especially in the heat.
I gained a little course best – and a trophy for 1st in age category ( 7th lady ). My time was 46.00.
