Race Reports 5–19 May

FRAC is picking up the pace as track workouts warm up, marathon season continues, Summer Relays approach, and the parkrun Cup Challenge spices up our Saturday mornings. Whatever you love about running, there’s something for you on the club itinerary. Here are the latest examples of what’s driving us forward.

Milton Keynes Marathon – 4 May

Gary Brazier showed Milton Keynes what he’s made of with this short and sweet report of a short and sweet effort

Milton Keynes Marathon today in a new PB of 04.22.51, nearly 9 minutes off my time set over 5 years ago.

Belfast Marathon – 6 May

Karla Larnder marks her first of two reports this week with her experience of the Belfast Marathon.

This marathon was flat first half to a hilly second. It was difficult to catch my pace marker point because of toilet issue (not enough). However, it was a very well marshalled, more for the relay teams than the marathon itself. It wasn’t a pb for me. However, it was my first marathon here. Great crowd support on route, too. I’m very pleased with my result, all things considered.

Battersea Park Half Marathon – 11 May

Our man in London, Jacob Henwood, rocked up to the Battersea on a mission, crossing the line in 1:27:20 – a shiny new PB!

Furley Page Whitstable 10km – 12 May

James Springett cruised 10 kilometres to finish in 45th overall with a time of 41:21. James says, “Just missed the rain thankfully and a very busy sold out event.” Way to go, Rain Man!

Maidstone Riverside 10 Mile – 12 May

Elsewhere, at the Maidstone 10k/10m, Karla Larnder and Greg Dixon covered both distances, respectively. Karla reports:

Today, I took part in a 10k in Maidstone – a beautiful  route ( extremely hot). Not a pb 49.03. 2nd lady, 1st in my age ( but you only get awarded 1 trophy).
Greg Dixon also ran in the 10-mile event (1:17), gaining a trophy in his age category.

Congratulations to both of you on a weekend spent well!

Southern Athletics League, Crawley – 19 May

Lisa and Andy Smith are back, this time with their report from SAL at Crawley:

We had lots of fun today – SAL @ Crawley.  Javelin (24.18) and Discus (17.64) for Andy and Javelin (14.69), Discus (14.93) and Shot (5.53 – new pb) for me.

Carrera Playa de Motril 5k – 18 May

All the way from the south of Spain, Liz Tew gives her breakdown of this blazing bustle.

Yesterday I did the 5k Carrera Playa de Motril here in sunny southern Spain. It was a bit hot at 26° Celsius but I finished in 29:31 and was 26th woman out of 80. Being Spain, each runner received a goody bag with the usual T-shirt but with the addition of a punnet of cherry tomatoes and a net of avocados.

Rye 5 Mile – 19 May

And who is it this time but…Karla Larnder again! Karla’s smashing through them this season and flying the FRAC banner wherever she goes!

Today I ran Rye 5 mile. It was at short notice on behalf of my friend (Ola).

It was hot and hilly. I’ve got to get ready to go to work now.

I’m very proud to be a member of FRAC, and was quick to correct people when they thought I was in another club.

Martin Salmon did extremely well, coming 6th overall, 2nd in his age group.

Myself I came 12th, 2nd lady and 1st in age category.

parkrun

parkrun Cup Challenge is in full swing as Round 1 of the A Cup concluded this past Saturday. FRAC colours were flying as everyone put in their best effort to top their targets (PB plus a 30-second handicap). It’s just a bit of fun to encourage all of us to be aspirational as well as social across the club, regardless of age group, gender, or time. Club members can follow all the results on the Folkestone Running & Athletics Club Members Only Facebook group.
