On a weekend of big performances, Henry Axon’s Ironman UK takes some beating. Taking on the full ironman distance event in Bolton, Henry first tackled the 2.4 mile swim completing it in 1:33:11. Next up was the 112 mile bike leg which proved to be much tougher and hillier then expected with over 3000 metres of climbing, made more challenging with heavy rain and 25mph winds. Henry completed this in 7:08:20. Finally, the small matter of a marathon to run. Steady pacing on the bike meant he was able to complete this in a hugely impressive 3:26:18, giving him an overall time of 12:23:01 and officially making him an Ironman.

Continuing the triathlon theme, Emily Chambers was in action on Saturday at the Banana Tri at Eton Dorney. Taking part in the Jumbo Banana olympic distance (1500m swim, 42.4km bike, 10km run) event, Emily was victorious, finishing 1st in a time of 2:31:44, a full 4 minutes ahead of the 2nd place finisher. She was rewarded with two bananas for her efforts.
Phil Maull was continuing his ultra challenge of running five (plus a couple more) ultras this year by taking part in the Saloman Serpent 50k Trail race, just two weeks after his last event. The spectacular route ran from West Sussex to Hampshire and Phil completed it in 5:53:28.

Dave Tyler took part in the Bewl 15, a tough hilly trail circuit of the resevoir. Despite not being a fan of the trails and taking a bit of a tumble, Dave put in a strong performance to finish 4th in a time of 1:36:38.
Kicking off the weekend the right way, three runners from FRC took part in the first of the Rye Summer Classic Series 10k races on Friday evening. Tony Scott was first back for the club in a time of 52:27. Chris Childs was next back and was 2nd in her age category in a time of 59:05. Maria Felicetti wasn’t far behind with a time of 1:00:45.

“Warm innit” was the general consensus on the Leas on Saturday morning for the parkrun. Well done to Ian Merrick, Karla Larnder and Sophie O’Callaghan who all ran new PBs.
