A weekend race round up

Folkestone’s festive lights have begun to light up the town which means our runner’s elf themed socks, santa hats and reindeer noses are coming out of storage.

Before all that, we’ve got some non-Christmas related races to talk about this week so let’s get into it!

Battersea Park 10km

Anna Thomsen with her 2nd female place win at Battersea Park

Anna Thomsen stormed through the autumn leaves at Battersea Park on Sunday for its 10km event.

Not only running proudly in the FRAC colours, she also did it in style! A new personal best in a time of 39:36, also coming in at second female.

Splendid work Anna!

Coastbuster 10 Mile & 10k

Sarah and Kate flying during the Coastbuster 10 Miler

A breezy race through the salty air of Ramsgate welcomed a few of our members for its weekend 10 mile and 10km events.

Taking on the 10km race was Paul Hannay who came across the line in 58:36.

Over in the 10 miler we saw a big result with Nasradine Haroun coming in 3rd place overall and 1st junior male in his category with a time of 1h 29 seconds. What a result Nas!

Two others in the event were Sarah Nunn and Kate Evans with Sarah reporting on her experience:

A blustery, rainy and undulating 10 mile run, starting from the Royal Esplande, Ramsgate, heading down to the seafront and along the coast to Broadstairs. Then climbing back up to the cliff top to the finish.

A PB for me of 1:22:00 which was a surprise considering the conditions and taking it steady along a few slippery paths. 9th female out of 107 and 3rd in age category.

Good to see fellow FRAC runner Kate Evans there braving the conditions too and coming in at 1:24:01.

Kent Cross Country League 2025

Young Folkestone runners at the Danson Park Cross Country event

Another Kent XC League cross country event saw Danson Park welcome runners from all over taking on the muddy trails.

A great result all round with our young man Guy Slingsby representing in the U17 men’s.

His mum Julie passed along the result that he came home in 14th place after the 5.3k course (a little more than expected) in a time of 18:35 which he was over the moon with!

I enjoyed it too. I teamed up with a parent from Ashford Althetics and Oscar’s dad from FRAC and think we set a new PB running across the park in zag zag following the boys!

Results from the day are expected to be uploaded here.

parkruns for the week:

It was the final of the Folkestone Running & Athletics Club parkrun Cup with A League competitors Amy Axon and Joseph Carroll facing off at Folkestone’s weekend event.

Results will be shared at the annual FRAC Christmas Party but let’s just say, a new PB was earned…but for who?

You can take a sneak peek at this week’s parkrun results here.
