Summer brings so many opportunities, so many wonderful chances to try new things, see old friends, and even, occasionally, do other things than running. But there’s still lots of running. Let’s find out where, starting with…
FR&AC Folkestone Virtual 10 Miler – 27 July
The challenge continues as club mates stack up their results. This week we see four more of FRAC’s finest add their names to the role. Coach Catherine O’Connor, Bec Powney, Kirsty Wilson and Carrie Thomas teamed up for the 10-mile run. Carrie reports:
It was a lovely chatty run in cool conditions. We had to manoeuvre ourselves around a Boot Fair at the start, weave through spectators watching the Sandgate regatta and unexpectedly saw Thomas Aspinall, who papped us on the way back!
Great fun!
And great running, everyone! Club runners have until 31 August to submit their results for the virtual 10-miler. Details are available in the club newsletter.

Canterbury Bike Ride – 27 July
We may be runners, but we’re also friends, and wherever we take the FRAC spirit we also carry the FRAC name. So when Nikki Goodwin, Marie Brazier, Jenny Hatfield, Philip Hatfield, Shaun Tunca, David Smyth and Ivana Collier took a part in Sunday’s 52 miles on an iconic undulating Canterbury bike ride, they brought the spirit, too. With the weather we’ve seen recently, dry roads were no sure thing, but they went for it. From the event website:
The routes will leave the rugby club and explore the picturesque countryside, heading to the coast at Whitstable and returning through the Kent Downs AONB.
I hope you enjoyed the ride, folks!

Rutland Water parkrun
Malc and Julie Gibbs found a beautiful parkrun in Rutland Water this week. Julie reports:
Malc and I ran in the Rutland Water parkrun yesterday. Julie 30.25 Malc 33.02.
The course was a “flat, there and back with the turning point across the Dam. Beautiful scenery and plenty of sheep to avoid”.
