Folkestone Running and Athletics Club have a Welsh National finalist, medallist and Champion!
Thomas Webb (U17) competed in Cardiff over the 2 days this weekend. Saturday saw the start of his medal haul with a bronze in Shot Put with a PB of 10.73m. Thomas may as well have stayed on the podium on Sunday as he took home 3 more medals – 400m hurdles bronze (1.01.11), 100m hurdles bronze (PB – 14.18) and a GOLD in javelin (36.83).
Everyone at the Club is super proud of you Thomas and can’t wait to see how your athletic career develops.

Last Monday, Darren Crew and Jody Stoakes ran Ashford Pride 5k. Darren Crew was the 6th overall and the 1st Male VET50 in a time of 20.06, with Jody Stoakes the 3rd lady overall and the 1st Female VET40 in a time of 24.25.

This Sunday Trevor DeVooght took on a half marathon deep in the Swiss Alps. His goal – ascend the 1100 metres from the village of Bettmeralp to the peak of Bettmerhorn at approximately 2,650 metres. Over trail and rock they ran, they walked, they scrambled. The sun shone through a cloudless morning into a golden afternoon while day hikers and villagers cheered and hollered encouragement to the runners by name. They gave them water and tea, fed them banana and cranberry granola.

Trevor said “It was a race through the first 14 kilometres. Beyond that, it became a matter of sheer fitness and commitment. The final two kilometres were closer to climbing. With only 500 metres to go, the mountain brought me to my knees with an almighty cramp in my left calf. A fellow athlete took my foot and helped me stretch it back to life. I finally crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 27 minutes, 226th of 2221 runners.”
