It’s a big ol’ Race Report this week with a look back at some of the running related shenanigans that has taken place amongst our merry members.
Folkestone 10 donation

Before we start, we would like to add a small note mentioning a cash donation that was made earlier on Tuesday’s hills session which saw Folkestone’s Rainbow Centre receive £840 from our club.
This sum came from us as a benefit from our Folkestone 10 Mile event which will go towards contributing to a fantastic cause.
The centre supports those in need of crucial services such as food help, homeless support, financial guidance and so much more.
Virtual Folkestone 10

While we’re talking about the Folkestone 10, our club members – who volunteer and help run the annual event – thought they’d give the ten mile running distance a go!
In a new idea to allow our club members a try at the distance, entrants under the FR&AC colours can also take part in this fun event.
This allows them to run the distance participants ran back on Good Friday to see if they can match those successes!
It’s a great bit of fun with Jane Wren, Deborah Parmenter and Sonia May kicking off the first attempt this weekend with some brilliant showings.
The Clifftop Challenge

It was a hot and toasty one as a healthy bunch of club members took on The Clifftop Challenge on Saturday 21 June.
This multi-distance event saw runners participate in a few different distances from 5 to 55 miles!
It was well attended with FR&AC colours spreading across the day and traversing locations such as Hastings, East Sussex, and Deal.
Taking part in the distances were Clive Allon, Nicky Goodwin and Hilary Collins in the 10 miler, Lisa Smith, Kate Lancefield, Diane Paraon, Simon Coffey and Tony Scott at 15, and then Jenny Heathfiled charging ahead with the 40 miles.
Speaking on her experience, here is what Jenny Healthfield had to say:
“On Saturday I took part in the Clifftop Challenge which is a charity event that raises money for breast cancer and is run once every year in June.
“There are six different distances to choose from ranging from 5,10,15,26.2, 36 and 55 miles.
“Over the last three years I had completed the 36 mile distance so I decided to go for the big one 55 which ran from Hastings to Deal.
“It was an early start just after 2am. It was very interesting running in the dark over multi-terrain but I made the most of the cool weather and had set up a good average pace.
“At 27 miles I hit the first climb up past Port Lympne Zoo, although it was a challenging hill I didn’t feel too bad at this point. As the morning went on the weather was getting hotter and hotter with many challenging hills to contend with.
“I made it to Capel but unfortunately missed the check point by 10 minutes so I then had to make the hard decision to step down. In previous years the organisers had always been flexible with check-in times but this was no ordinary day.
“With temperates reaching up to 28 degrees the safety of runners was main priority. I felt sad not to achieve my goal but did manage an epic 40.67 miles with 1,991 of elevation making it the furthest cliff top distance I have completed.”
Amazing work everyone and especially you Jenny!

Southern Athletics League

It’s not trips to Thorpe Park or Alton Towers that make a Smiths family outing, but a classic day out to the Southern Athletics League!
Match 2 of the series took place at Lewes with Abi Smith and mum Lisa Smith taking on a variety of disciplines with stunning results.
Abi: 400m Hurdles (PB), Javelin (600g PB) and High Jump
Lisa: Hammer (PB), Shot Put, Javelin, Discus and 1500m Steeplechase (PB)
Massive well done to the Smith clan as always.
South East Schools Inter Counties Championships
Our young Guy Slingsby went along to Crawley on Saturday 21 June where he competed in the 3000m for under 17s boys.
Proudly representing Kent in what was a new challenge for him, he came home with an impressive time of 9 minutes and 59 seconds.
Chuffed is an under statement! He said he paced it well, not setting off too fast and enjoyed it.
No medal, but getting to wear a Kent vest was more than enough – just look at his face!
