Junior Victories and Globetrotting parkruns

Thomas Webb competed in the Kent Indoor Athletics Championship on the 15th and 16th March at Lee Valley.  On Saturday he competed in the 60m hurdles and the shotput.  He got a PB in the shotput, throwing 9.91 and won the silver medal.  On Sunday he started the day with a pole vault PB of 2.50 and followed that with a SB of 56.77 in the 400m.  He finished the day with a PB in the 1,500m and another silver medal!

Last Sunday, 23 March 2025, Karla Larnder ran the Smugglers 10k in a time of 47:48.

This Saturday, Jacob Gillett and Poppy Duncan from the junior athletics club represented Kent in the Kent Schools cross country championship in Essex. Six counties were represented.

Jacob ran for the year 7 boys and ran a steady race finishing well in the middle of the pack. The pace was quick and it was a scramble at the start making it difficult to make ground. Jacob settled into the race though and had a strong finish.

Poppy ran for the year 8 girls and had a tough time as she was tripped at the start just before it bottlenecks into a tight course. She fell and hurt both knees and her shoulder. Despite this she showed grit and determination, picking herself up, continuing and finishing the race. It was a painful one for her but she finished and can be proud of her efforts after such a big fall.

This Sunday, Rebecca Powney ran the Whitstable and Herne Bay Spring Run 5k in a time of 20:26 and was the first female back.  Sonia May managed to grab a last minute spot at the 10k race and completed the course in a time of 59:30.
