Cross Country

On Saturday, runners from running clubs across Kent travelled to Somerhill School in Tonbridge for the second race of the Kent Cross Country League.  Running this tough, cross country course were runners of all ages from Folkestone Running Club.

U13 Boys

A fantastic start to his first competitive cross country season.

Jacob Gillett came 24th out of 83 boys in the Under 13, 3km race with a time of 12.06 at Foots Cray Meadows on the 12th October and then this weekend competed in his 2nd under 13, 3k cross country run at Somerhill with a time of 11.34 coming 20th out of 64 runners.  Jacob is also the Folkestone and district schools Year 7 cross country champion having recently competed in the district schools Cross country event at Brockhill

U13 Girls

This course was very muddy and very hilly with a steep hill to tackle. Tougher than the footscray race but a good experience to understand the differences in endurance required for hilly races.

Poppy came in 31st in a time of 14:49 but has learnt a lot from the race and enjoyed the test.

Beachy Head

Across the weekend many Folkestone runners travelled to Eastbourne to take part in the various, trail runs that were completed over the torturous hills of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. With the Marathon, Ultra and 10k races taking place on Saturday and the Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, it was a busy weekend of running.

On Saturday, Collette Windsor ran the Beachy Head 10k trail course in a time of 1:11:01.

Running her first ever marathon, Deborah Parmenter completed the tough, challenging marathon trail course in 6:31:36.  Also running the Marathon were Phil Heathfield 5:56:37, Jenny “Twiggy” Heathfield 5:56:38, Jason Crockford 8:15:40, Neil Sutcliff-Adams 8:15:47, Jane Wren 7:02:35 and Roy Atkins 8:15:42

Combining the 10k course and the Marathon course, 3 runners took part in the 52.6 Ultra Race.  Ron Bell  ran the Ultra course in a new 50k personal best time of 6:26:02 with Jason King also completing the Ultra in a time of 6:18:58 and Trevor Devooght coming in in an amazing time of 5:32:24.  Beachy Head was Trevor’s first ultra, and what an introduction to the discipline! Eastbourne and its neighbouring villages were so supportive, from the dozens and dozens of marshals, to the well-staffed and stocked aid stations, to the dedicated volunteers cooking hot dinners for the post-race meals. The views were incredibly striking and dramatic, whether it was the fog filled valleys in the morning as they crested every hilltop, or the tall white cliffs standing tall, like ivory citadels jutting straight up from the coast. The event and the area lived up to all of the runners expectations.

On Sunday Cassandra Sinclair ran the tough Half Marathon course in a time of 2:26:27.

Running one of these events is tough, but obviously not tough enough for some people.  On Saturday, Kate Clipstone ran the Marathon in a time of 7:36:25 and then, on Sunday, ran the Half Marathon in a time of 3:23:54.

Ashford Halloween Runs

Closer to home four runners took part in the Ashford Halloween run.  Dan McCarthy ran the 10 mile race in 1:09:25, while three runners ran the 5 mile race, Kirsty Wilson 35:11, Vicky Scott 36:10, Sarah Nunn,  43:55.
