This week’s report is a round up of the past 2 weeks of FRAC’ers sporting antics and some antics they have been. First up was the Sevenoaks 48th Sevenoaks Circular 22 Mile Challenge held by the LDWA (Long distance walkers association) Jane Wren Ron Bell and Caroline Curtis took part. whilst not actually being a race – this event involves an element of self navigation using written directions in abbreviations. The course was wet and very muddy and the intrepid threesome admit they got lost a few times but in their words “it was so much fun”

Sunday 17th March saw another another group of hardy trail runners who took on the Western Heights Half Marathon. Phil Maul had this to say about the event. “It was a fabulous run, if really muddy, but we all so enjoyed the historic sights of the Grand Shaft, Citadel and Grand Redoubt”. First home was 1st lady, in 2nd place Linnaea Stockall in 2:23:25 minutes, Sylwia Tokaska in 3:10:05, Phil Maull in 3:22:34 and Neil Adams 3:39:22

Last Sunday was the Hastings Half Marathon with 2 FRAC runners. First home was Martin Salmon 1:47:13 followed by Simon Coffey 1:49:49 with Antony Scott finishing in 1:57:13.
Good Friday saw the return of the club’s annual race the Folkestone 10. This was the 40th running of the event with the starter being Mike Gratton who was winner of the first ever Folkestone 10 back in 1984 and whose record in 1985 of 48:45 still stands. Representing the club were 4 wild card winners . First back to the Hythe Green was Torben Jessen in 1:04:05 coming in first Male Vet 60 and 43rd overall. Thomas Murray finished in 1:11:23 in 95th place. Hazel Green finished 1:17:15 and was first Female Vet 55 with Ivana Collier close behind, using this as part of her 20 mile London marathon training run in 1:21:57. Excellent results by all!!!!

In addition to the brilliant runners who took part in their masses ( the race was sold out several days before Good Friday) it couldn’t have taken place without an army of FRAC volunteers who manned water stations, gave out race packs, cycled as support riders and came to the rescue when the course was covered in shingle at 8am in the morning . Spades and brooms at the ready they cleared large sections of the course just in time for the race to begin. Finally a massive thank you to the Race Committee who worked all year round to ensure everything was in place for the race to go ahead.
