FRAC runners won’t be stopped by the weather. Saturday saw the highly anticipated finals of the park run cups. The 4 intrepid finalists were not phased by the ice and the bitterly cold conditions. The A cup saw Bec Powney up against Dave Botting while the B cup was contested between Caroline Curtis and Gary Brazier. Now although the results are in you will have to wait until the Club Dinner for them to be revealed. However what a competition this year has been.
Further afield in the snowfields of Poland Sylwia Tokarska completed in Garmin Ultra Race Gdansk GUR50. The race had 3885 feet of elevation and was completed in -3C. She finished in 7:10:24. A brilliant effort.
In the warmer climate of Lanzarote Tara Baker completed another marathon bringing her closer to the 200 mark with partner Mark Weight. Both finished in 5:08.
Saturday afternoon also saw the Kent Veterans Cross Country championships in Dartford. In the men’s event the Vet 50 team came 2nd overall just losing out to Kent AC for the top spot. Sunday saw a change in the weather from sun and ice to wind and rain. At the Hurtwood 50k FRAC had two hardy racers. Phil Maull reports:
The Hurtwood 50K race is a trail race in the Surrey Hills over Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill there is then a 5 mile lollipop and then it’s back over all three hills again to the finish. Linnaea and I both really enjoyed the run even through we had drizzle and occasional showers with the gorgeous views somewhat obscured this year.
Linnaea Stockall finished in 6:11:19 24th female and 6th Vet 40 female and Phil Maull followed in 6:39:17. Well done to both in really tough conditions.
Three runners took part in the Alan Green 10 mile race. David Tyler was second overall in new personal best of 54:38 whilst Nikki Goodwin was 2nd female overall and 2nd female Vet 40 1:10:35. Martin Salmon finished in 1:22:35 49th overall.

In Chatham Louisa Eede and Hayley Turrell raced the Chatham Dockyard 10k and 5k respectively . Louisa finished in a time of 47:26 ,a big personal best time and 2nd female overall and 1st Vet 45 whilst Hayley finished the 5K in 12th place and 5th female in a time of 29:08.

There was one race when the sun did shine today; The Valencia Marathon, although it appeared to be unseasonably cold at the start. Runners had to contend with 6C at the start although it did warm up . First home celebrating his 30th birthday with a fantastic pb was Josh Pine in a time of 2:54:48 followed by Henry Axon who cruised round in 3:08:29, Kevin Whitby finished in 4:31:38 and Amy Owen cam home in 4:53:08 another pb time. Congratulations to all.
