Tri this on

Cross country season is almost upon us!

The leaves are changing colour and the wind is beginning to take on a cool edge, although the sun is shining as ever and those afternoon warm waves keep coming. The time for trail shoe shopping and digging out light running jackets has come.

Now let’s see what you’ve been getting up to! A couple of triathlons, I see…

Cardiff Half Marathon

Matthew Webb reports from Cardiff where on Sunday he came in 375 of 1100 in Mens 50–54 on 1.56.40! As he said, ‘Excellent event, with great support alll round the course. 20000+ finishers. Very humid though, and quite a few people being treated by medics for heat exhaustion’. Good to know, Matthew, and great running!

Port Lympne 5k

Closer to home, FRAC runners raced the Port Lympne 5k. This course sends runners through the ups and downs of the local wildlife reserve past animals of every description. Catherine Clipstone charged in at 29.42 as 1st Female Vet 55 of 13! Dominic Shepherd roared into 22.11 as 15th overall. We’re told Philip Bridges and Hayley Crocker got round, too! Great running, everyone.

World Triathlon Age-Group Championships

We’re very proud of Chris Childs who traveled to Pontevedra, Spain last week to represent GB in the Female 60–64 Supersprint! Chris caned it through the 300m swim (8.57), 6.4km bike (14.36), and 1.6km run (8.24) for a total finish time of 41.05! Way to set the bar for the rest of us, Chris!

Nene Valley Swimrun

We couldn’t forget another of our gritty triathletes, Kevin Whitby, who headed to Nene Valley this weekend for the eliminator event. Kevin completed five full laps for a finish place of 12th!

Hellfire 10k

Collette Windsor and Twiggy Quinn report from Dover where they took on the inaugural Hell-fire 10k run. ‘It was an extremely challenging trail route completed in just under an hour and a half’, said Twiggy. Collette gives a full description as follows: ’10k trail run starting at the old prison site/the citadel. Challenging trail run with nearly 900ft of elevation. Single file a lot of the way due to hazardous route. Not chipped timed but it seemed to be more of an event about helping fellow runners and the views were just outstanding! Really interesting running around the now derelict prison site too’.

Hyde Park 10k

Finally, Darren Crew and Jody Stoakes represented FRAC at Hyde Park this weekend. Darren made a fast finish in 39.25 as 12th Male, 13th overall, and Jody in 46.47 for an impressive 10th Female! Way to go!
