Pbs from 5k to 50k

After having been forced to pull out of the Manchester marathon at the last minute, Rob Hill finally got his chance to put all his training to good use at the Milton Keynes marathon. While not the easiest of courses, Rob put in a great performance to knock almost 13 minutes off his PB in a time of 3:41:39. Also taking part was Tony Scott who completed the 26.2 miles in 5:19:08.

The weekend of running kicked off early for some members as they took a trip up to London to take part in the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5k in Hyde Park. A fruitful journey it was too as they all came away with new PBs. In perfect conditions, Emily Chambers was first to finish the two lap course as 9th lady overall in a time of 20:13.  Catherine O’Connor was next to finish in 21:21 followed by Jane Wren in 23:13 and Marie Brazier in 25:13. Catherine and Jane were both 3rd in their respective age categories while Marie was 4th in hers.

At the other end of the distance scale, three FRCers took part in the North Downs Ridge 50k Trail Ultra race. There were plenty of hills as the route picked its way between Dorking and Guildford, Linnea Stockall was first back and 7th lady overall in a time of 5:16:09, Neil Trett was next in 5:19:16 ahead of Phil Maull, continuing his 5x50k ultras in 2022 challenge (although he’s now doing 7) who ran a PB time of 5:31:21.

Phil Heathfield took part in the Doddington Place Gardens 5k Canicross on Saturday where he finished 4th male and 9th overall in a time of 25:36. On Sunday he followed this up by taking part in the Pilgrims Hospice 100 mile cycle ride, completing it in a time of 6:43:22.

The Vitality 10k took place on Monday around the streets of central London. Henry Axon was the first to make it to the finish line just outside Buckingham Palace in a time of 35:26. Patrick Hughes was next, knocking almost a minute off his PB to finish in 37:08. Nick Bryant knocked a massive 2:43 off his previous quickest time and ran 39:33. Jase O’Callaghan was next in 49:01 followed by Brian Davis, taking part in his first race for over 5 years in a time of 54:58 and Amy Owen who finished in 59:34

Lots of parkrun action on Saturday morning. Well done to Ian Merrick, Josh Pine, Kirsty Wilson, Jordan Dixon, Ron Bell, Anh-Van Whitby, Jonathan Drinkwater, Chris Childs, Poppy Pickford and Helen Francis who all got new PBs
