It was proper cross country weather at the Kent Cross Country Championships at Brands Hatch last Saturday as strong winds and torrential rain meant there was plenty of mud on offer.
Stand out performance of the day has to go to Noah Paterson who after a tough battle out at the front of the field in the U15 boys race, finished in 2nd place and claimed the silver medal. Oli Collier also finished strongly in 39th place.
In the U15 girls event Emma and Jennifer Clayton finished 19th and 35th respectively.
Krzysztof Klidzia led the Folkestone senior men home in 99th place followed by Patrick Hughes in 115th, Henry Axon 152nd , Dave Smyth 176th, Neil Trett 183rd and Tony Scott 193rd.
In the Women’s event Nikki Goodwin lead the Folkestone ladies home in 28th place, followed by Emily Chambers in 46th, Anh-Van Whitby in 71st, Karla Larnder in 78th, Catherine O’Connor 85th, Sylwia Tokarska 98th and Rachel Smith 100th.
The men’s team of 6 finished in 11th place and the women’s team of 3 finished in 11th with their team of 6 finishing in 8th.
On Sunday, Henry Axon was back in action again taking part in the Essex Duathlon, his first duathlon. Consisting of a 10k run, 64k bike and then another 10k run, Henry started the second run leg in 2nd place before overhauling the leader to take the win Not bad for a first attempt.
Lots of runners braved the soggy conditions for parkruns on Saturday morning. Dan Voller was first finished in Deal.
