A Busy Weekend

It’s hard to know where to start this week there was so much going on.

The North Downs Run is a tough 30k trail race that goes up and down the north downs a couple of times and is a popular race with FRC members who like a bit of a challenge. There were three FRC runners taking part this year. Finishing in a superb 11th place was Dan Radcliffe in a time of 2:06:11. Ian McGilloway finished in 2:12:19 in 17th place overall and 3rd in the V45 category of the BMAF championships. Debbie Jeffrey finished in a time of 2:40:34 placing her 5th in her age category and 100th overall.

Another popular local race is the Sandwich 10k. There were a number of FRC runners who took part. Greg Dixon came 54th in 43:00, Ron Bell came 117th in 48:10, Catherine Clipstone came 160th in 51:23, Gail Turbutt came 172nd in 51:59, Colette Windsor came 183rd in 52:21, Diane Parsons came 194th in 53:09 and Marie Brazier came 209th in 54:21.

Up in the Chilterns were the Maverick Terrex Frontier trail races. Neil Trett took on the 43km distance, his longest race to date. Neil faced quite a battle having to contend with not only the hills, stiles and terrain but also ‘runner’s stomach’ and says his own bloody-mindedness pulled him through to finish in 28th place. Caroline Curtis and Brent Parker also took part in the event although the shorter 10km distance. Caroline finished 1st in her age category and Brent 3rd in his.

On Saturday, Patrick Hughes travelled up to the Olympic Park and took part in the Lee Valley Velo Park half-marathon finishing in a fantastic time of 1:26:49 in 11th place.
