Virtual Racing during Lockdown

We are now into week 9 of the lockdown. The club has continued to participate in virtual racing. One of which has been the hugely successful Lockdown League, facilitated by Ashford and District RRC member Ricky Hickman.

This past week saw athletes run a far as they could in the time of 60 minutes. Previously each week, runners have been challenging themselves to run 3 miles, five miles etc.

Folkestone Running Club has been doing incredibly well over the duration of the Lockdown League races. At present, the men’s team are in first, women in third place overall and the mixed team in third.

Individually, our strong men’s team included Ian McGilloway, Derek Matcham, and Dave Tyler all broke through the ten mile barrier. Out of 93 men who competed, five men ran over ten miles and three of those were Folkestone Running Club members! Derek, who was over the moon with his run, obtained a 10 mile PB.

Dave Tyler still leads the men’s under 40 and Derek Matcham is in joint first of the over 40s.

With regard to the ladies who ran this week, Nikki Goodwin, Karen Puttock and Diane Parsons all scored points, which aided the club to remain high up the rankings.

There are many other virtual races taking place, one of which was the Staplehurst 5k Summer series. Ordinarily, this would have been taking place throughout the summer on selected Friday evenings. NE Timing decided to continue with the races and do them virtually. Vicky Green decided to take part in this competition and surprising to her, came in third place (ladies) and a new PB time of 23.21.

At time of writing, the club are participating in the Folkesone Running Club Intraclub Relay Challenge, results to follow.
