Folkestone running club race report – weekend 28 December and Christmas Day 2019

Highlights – Dave Tyler smashes Deal Parkrun age record on Christmas Day

Parkrun Pb for Rob Collier

One of the best things about Christmas day is running a parkrun.  Not all of the parkrun’s across the UK sign up to this but a select few do, so Caroline Curtis ran with 468 others to run over at Bexley. Dave Tyler ran the Deal seafront parkrun and deserves a special mention.  Finishing second he stole a cheeky age record in a time of 16.22.  Elizabeth Tew also ran at Deal.  Over in Ashford joining many who ran with their Santa hats and Elf costumes were Emma Creasey, Deborah Jeffery, Dave Walbrook, Rich Dyer and Catriona Watts all of whom made extra room for their Christmas Pudding, satisfied with their morning runs.

On Boxing day, the annual Saltwood boxing day run took place.  This muddy hilly over the stream through the kissing gates and up through the woods, attracts hundreds of runners.   Whilst it is great to get ahead of the pack sprinting through Saltwood to get out and into the field early it is not always possible to do this and to run the best time, but to compete and enjoy the camaraderie and run off those mince pies is why a majority of runners take part.

Finishing 3rd however, was Dan Voller in a time of 17.51, Junior member Callum Howes finished 7th in an incredible time of 18.59, Thomas Leaver was 12th in 19.30.  First lady and first for Folkestone was Emma Creasey finishing in 19thposition in a time of 20.14.
