FRAC’s parkrun Challenge Cup competitors enter the quarterfinals, and club mates travel distance to go the distance…
Bali Marathon – 24 August
Jane Wren went on an excursion during her Southeast Asian adventure. Bali Marathon was the challenge, and she writes home about the exciting details:
I did the Maybank Bali Marathon last Sunday 24th August. It was hot and hilly and humid. All the h’s!! The most beautiful marathon.
Starts at 4:30am in the dark with a head torch and normal glasses and then you finish in the bright sunshine with sunglasses.
It’s a different experience all together. The roads aren’t lit and there’s plenty of pot holes. Some of the roads aren’t closed either so you have to be aware of what’s going on. Running through the sunrise is brilliant across the rice fields. Bats swooping around as the sun comes out. The local school children line the streets in their traditional dress. Fantastic.
Thanks for sharing, Jane, and a hearty “Well done”!

Adidas Stockholm Half Marathon – 30 August
Jacob Henwood traveled to Sweden for a lovely little event called the Adidas Stockholm Half Marathon. The race describes its course as “perfect for both those aiming for a personal best in the half marathon (21.1 km) and those who want to experience the joy and challenge of completing their first half marathon.”
Of course, this wasn’t Jacob’s first half, but he was supporting a friend for theirs. In the meantime, he earned himself a speedy 1:31:25. Strong effort, Jacob!

Battersea Park parkrun

Julie Slingsby reports on a Slingsby family trip that necessarily includes a parkrun. Here’s her report:
Slingsbys on Tour!
This Saturday, we ran Battersea parkrun, joining 1,020 runners. It was busy!
Guy led with a brilliant 2-second PB—clocking 17:00 and placing 22nd overall. Not quite the sub-17 he was chasing, but a fantastic result nonetheless.
Hugo cruised in with 30:35, and I rounded things off with a determined 35:59 (recovering from a small injury from earlier in the week).
