A little further away, Sonia Markwell and Jane Wren went after the Rye 10 Miler. The report from Sonia goes:

Myself and Jane ran the Rye 10miler on Sunday. It was a beautiful course, rather hilly and undulating with  spectacular views through the countryside.. the weather was perfect.

A thoroughly enjoyable run.

Loughborough International Athletics (LIA), Loughborough University – 18 May

Juniors success continues as this past weekend Tommy Owler gave it everything for international glory and clinched it. Coach Pat Hanys shares this report from Loughborough:

Tommy Owler gained his first selection for England on Sunday running in the Loughborough International.

He had a superb debut, first running the individual 400m for the National Athletics League team coming 2nd with a pb of 47.09 the winner fractionally ahead with 47.05!
He then lead the England team out in the mixed 4 x 400m relay where he handed the baton over just after the leading team. To put his team in a strong 2nd place, which they held onto for their final position.

This excellent debut should bring more top racing opportunities for Tommy.

Well done Tommy!

Kent Road Relays – 14 May

Last, but certainly not least, Folkestone Running & Athletics Club took its first steps alongside clubs from across East Kent for the first instalment of the Kent Road Relays. The season opened right here in Folkestone, starting and finishing in front of Sandgate Castle and proceeding along the promenade and back for 3.4 kilometres (or 2.1 miles). The club fielded an astonishing 67 runners. Many PBs were had over the 2-mile course, and several victories.

Senior Women A-Team (Manda Gurung, Bec Powney, Daisy Wright) racked up a powerful second place in 40:17, comfortably 17 seconds ahead of third. V60 Mens A-Team (Andrew Noble, Andy Hadlow, Torben Jessen) topped the category in 40:38. V35 Womens A-Team (Kirsty Wilson, Layla DMonte, Carrie Thomas) took third in 44:56. The first round of the intraclub parkrun Challenge Cup (A-Cup) is complete! Darren Crew has distributed the updates over our usual internal channels so I won’t re-hash the standings here. Congratulations to everyone who advanced. Despite PBs across multiple matches, even the swiftest among us can’t stand up to the power of percentages because it’s all about how much you gain against your own target. For those relegated to the B Cup, the action is NOT over. This is an extremely competitive bracket where everyone has something to prove. Good luck in the next round, everyone!
