Race Reports 25 November–1 December

As the cold closes in, the club gets hot! We at FRAC hold summer in our hearts, and we lace up for fun and fitness — anytime, anywhere. Let’s see how you’ve broken barriers this week, folks!

Thanet Coastal 10 and 5 Mile Race – 1 December

Thanet hosted club runners at its annual 10 and 5 mile events this past Sunday. Karla Larnder reports that Marie Brazier, Tony Scott, and David Tyler ran the 10 Mile, while she covered the 5 Mile. “Everyone did really well, especially with a few cheeky hills and the strong wind,” says Karla.

David came in at a 2nd overall with a stonking finish time of 55:45. Marie clocked in at 1:27 for a brilliant 1:39 PB, and Tony in 1:30. Karla rocked up to 5th lady with 1st in category in the 5 Mile at 36:18. Outstanding work, all of you!

South Kent Mind Mental Elf Fun Run – 1 December

Elsewhere, in Folkestone, South Kent Mind held the inaugural Mental Elf Fun Run in support of – you guessed it – mental health! The run took place on our very own parkrun course on the Leas. Participants executed their best Chrimbo fancy dress with enthusiasm. Since it’s a fun run only there wasn’t an official timekeeper, but you know us—we practically start a Strava workout from the sofa to the fridge (hey, miles are miles!).

Ian Merrick clocked in at 21:27, Dan McCarthy next up in 22:12, Sarah Nunn on 26:56, and Helen Merrick in 37:38. Kate Lancefield also participated, and she and Dan send along festive photos from the event. Fantastic ‘racing’ for community, runners!

Cani Trail 22 – 30 November

Sylwia Tokarska and Poppy took off on another cross country bimble, this time in Wales. Sylwia reports:

Poppy the Labrador and I took part in Cani Trail event in LLanharan, South Wales on Saturday 30/11/2024. Due to flooding caused by the storm Bert, the course was shortened to 17 miles with ascent of 987m (over 3200ft) – very steep inclines and even worse rocky/muddy descents. The results are not published yet, my Garmin says 3:54:40. Happy snappy attached.

Incredible effort on those hills, Sylwia and Poppy!

F45 Hyrox London

Finally, Jacob Henwood went for the Hyrox London Men’s Doubles, completing it in 1:13:08. For those who don’t know, Hyrox is a fitness competition that challenges competitors to a series of workouts at intervals along an 8km course. What it trades in speed it more than makes up for in grit. They earn those red faces! Well done, Jake.
