Nine Junior Athletes from Folkestone RC had a busy weekend taking part in the Kent Athletics Championships at Ashford.
With Covid putting a halt on training over the past year, athletes were a bit apprehensive about starting the season with the high standard competition.
There were lots of good performances and pb’s, with athletes in the younger end of the age group gaining valuable track experience. The older boys led the way bringing home medals.
Medals were won by Tommy Owler, with Gold in the u17 men’s 400m in 50.75, a superb display despite running into a wind of -3.9. This result puts him at number 2 in the country on the national ranking list. Tommy also achieved Bronze in u17 men’s 200m in 23.75 in a highly contested race.
Jack Doubtfire won a Bronze medal in the u17 men’s Long Jump with 5.65m, a fantastic achievement in pouring rain and high winds and not having had the opportunity to get on a long pit for over a year.
We are looking forward to the league matches with lots of new juniors having signed up to compete for the club in Kent Young Athletes League and Youth Development league.
