Merriment with ultras, trails, halfs, triathlons and 5/10k racing

Folkestone Running Club members were here there andeverywhere from running trails at Rye, participating in the Great North Run,Wingham 10k, Triathons, Ultras and successes at Parkruns locally and further afield!

Morgan West competed at the British Triathlon’s Big Weekend on Saturday. This national level event is the pinnacle at the end of the season, traditionally a key milestone in the development of future triathlon stars. After an incredible season to date, junior athlete Morgan finished 29th in a high quality senior field and finishing 11th junior for the year.

Kicking off with local race news… Clive Allon achieved an impressive time of 00:47:29 for the Wingham 10k, however, Andy Hadlow also did incredibly well, gaining a personal best (PB) for 00:46:05. Both men fall into the v50 category.

Heading over to Sussex, a few of the Folkestone club travelled over and combated the challenging Rye Ancient Trails, choosing the 15k or 30k distance. First back for the club running the 15k was Richard Fowles obtaining a chip time of 01:24:52, Vicky Green paced by Ian McGillloway ran 01:26:00 and 01:26:01. Raymond Egan also finished in a time of 01:59:51. Choosing the 30K distance Faith Cowell completed the gruelling course in 03:32:19.

Moving on to ultra marathons, Jonathan Arana-Morton ran ahumungous 100km for the Thames Path Challenge gaining a finish time of10:40:56.

While in Newcastle up north the Great North Run half marathon, a handful of club runners participated in this event. Diane Parsons time was 02:09:06. Maria Fox 02:25:45. Andy Smith managed to get a great PB and finished in 01:50:20, and wife Lisa Smith finished 02:37:05.

Folkestone parkrun on Saturday saw Ian McGilloway hit the jackpot of a double PB two weeks in a row. Ian’s time this week was an amazing 00:17:01. Ian was followed by Andrew Fletcher 00:17:27, Dan Voller 00:18:03, Dave Gillett 00:19:02, Kevin Newman 00:19:02, Darren Crew 00:20:45, Ian Merrick 00:20:45, Derek Matchman 00:21.01, Chris Addison 00:21:22, Stuart Sprinks 00:21:48. First lady back was Ellie Hayes 00:22:15, David Walbrook 00:23:42, Richard Fowles 00:24:36, John O’Hara 00:24:37, Jody Stokes 00:24:41, Anthony Scott 00:24:59, Aldous Hosking 00:25:01, Andrew Richardson 00:25:13, David Rodacan 00:26:01, Catriona Watts 00:26:07, Linda Robson 00:26:57, Trudi Curd 00:27:08, Clive and Pam Allon 00:27:38, Lynsey Tighy 00:30:12, Phillip Maull 00:31:42, Hayley Klugzynski 00:33:31, Louise Fowler 00:35:17.

Up in Canterbury, club runner Debbie Jeffrey came first lady back in a time of 00:22:21.

Hafan Pwllheli parkrun saw some of Folkestone’s club away for the weekend. Nick Steele came first place and achieved a time of 00:18:26. Stuart Erksine 00:20:19, Paul Bartlett 00:23:00, Caroline Curtis 00:24:55, Vicky Scott 00:25:07 and Catherine O’Connor 00:25:40.
