The Don Thompson mile is an annual 1 mile race along Princes Parade, between Sandgate and Hythe. (Direction dictated by the wind on the night!)
The race memorialises former club member and Olympic gold medalist Don Thompson.

Route
The Don Thompson mile is marked by plaques and tall blue mile-posts embedded on the Hythe/Sandgate coastal path. They are placed by the Hythe Imperial Hotel and Spa, and the Sandgate Ice Cream hut.
It can be run from either direction (determined on the night accounting for favourable wind direction).
